About This Project
Summary
Green String Network uses locally created watercolor paintings and Indigenous storytelling to heal trauma in violence-affected East African communities. Where therapy is unaffordable or culturally unfamiliar, our art-based approach makes healing accessible through relevant imagery allowing safe processing of experiences. Our 1,500+ paintings by regional artists builds resilience, fosters dialogue, and cultivates sustainable peace through culturally relevant imagery.
Goals & Objectives
Our goal is to reimagine mental health through an Afrocentric lens that depathologizes healing. We cultivate environments where resilience emerges naturally through art and culture. Communities own their healing journeys, breaking cycles of violence through storytelling and locally rooted wisdom.
Results & Impact
Our collection of 1,500+ watercolor paintings by regional artists has transformed social healing across East Africa. Participants demonstrate increased self-acceptance, stronger community bonds, and peace attitudes, breaking cycles of violence through culturally-grounded resilience processes.
