About This Project

Summary

This year, the Little Free Library (LFL) nonprofit organization reached a milestone: the installation of the 200,000th Little Free Library book-sharing box. This landmark library was donated to Benjamin E. Mays IB World School, a Title I elementary school in St. Paul, MN. It marked the first of 200 Little Free Libraries granted to Title I schools across the country. Each library received 200 books gifted by Penguin Random House. Libraries were sponsored in part by Books Unbanned and Mortenson.

Goals & Objectives

LFL aimed to significantly expand children’s access to books and inspire them to read, which has a meaningful impact on success in school and beyond. The project strengthened community within schools and encouraged students to take books home to create personal libraries and read w/their families.

Results & Impact

The 200 Little Free Libraries have had a huge impact. A Kentucky recipient said: "We believe that every book holds the power to inspire, teach, and transport us to new worlds. Our Little Free Library is a place to share stories, spark imagination, and nurture a love of reading for years to come."
