About This Project
Summary
Our goal was to change the gun laws of Maryland. Maryland is one of the top 10 states for gun homicides for one simple reason: illegally trafficked guns. I-95 provides an all-too-easy way for illegal weapons to flow from Southern states with lax gun laws. This route is called the “Iron Pipeline:” Our objective was clear, Stop the Iron Pipeline. We worked with Grammy-nominated rapper Logic who's from Baltimore to write a song and we created a music video with a CTA that led you to a petition.
Goals & Objectives
Change the gun laws of Maryland by engaging Marylanders asking them to join StopTheIronPipeline.org and sign a petition urging the governor to change the laws. The initiative aimed to spark an urgent conversation about gun trafficking and its devastating impact on public health.
Results & Impact
With thousands of petitions signed, Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Attorney General Anthony Brown took decisive action against illegal gun trafficking, signing SB 443 into law, which makes the trafficking of illegal firearms a felony for the first time in the state of Maryland.
