About This Project
Summary
Racism and bias in Black maternal and infant health care is pervasive and deadly. Irth, as in Birth but we dropped the B for bias, is the first of its kind, "Yelp-like" app for Black & brown birthing families. On the front end, Irth captures ratings and reviews of prenatal, birthing, and pediatric experiences of care. On the back end, Irth's anonymized reviews are turned into robust patient experience data to work directly with hospitals, payers and providers to drive quality improvement.
Goals & Objectives
Irth was created to give the community a trusted platform for insights from other BIPOC to assist in provider selection, while driving more accountability and transparency in healthcare systems. We can inform and protect each other about good providers, while generating data to drive systems change
Results & Impact
Irth has over 30,000 users and reviews from 46 states. Irth's Birth Without Bias Quality Improvement Program, rooted in Black and brown patient voices, is now active in eight partner hospitals across six states, driving community accountability and transparency, and preventing deaths and near deaths
