About This Project

Summary

The National Comedy Center in Jamestown, NY – a cultural institution dedicated to the art form of comedy in Lucille Ball’s hometown – launched its free monthly Memory Café in February. Designed for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers, the program delivers a personalized comedy experience using interactive technology and curated content tailored to each visitor’s sense of humor – sparking joy, fostering connection, and creating meaningful moments of recognition and comfort.

Goals & Objectives

The goal was to leverage the National Comedy Center’s state-of-the-art museum to create a supportive, uplifting program for those living with memory loss and their caregivers – offering a safe, welcoming space where laughter, nostalgia, and shared experiences ease challenges and strengthen bonds.

Results & Impact

Memory Café attendance has more than doubled, with families returning month after month. Caregivers report reduced isolation and renewed connection, while participants light up with laughter. Extensive media coverage has amplified its reach, positioning the museum as a model for wellness programming
