About This Project
Summary
This 5-part animated series and lesson plans, shared with 120,000+ educators, aim to raise awareness among kids of the ocean’s influence on Earth’s weather and climate and how NOAA uses technology to gather data about our changing planet. Explaining weather and climate in a way that resonates with kids has long been a hurdle. NOAA scientists, media producers, and educators collaborated on a fresh approach, using humor, creativity, and relatability to capture kids' attention and inspire action.
Goals & Objectives
Our objective was to fulfill educators' request to NOAA for ocean-weather-climate connection content. Our goals were to increase children's science literacy in order to equip society to tackle climate change, to encourage the pursuit of science careers, and to foster an appreciation for NOAA's work.
Results & Impact
Since our December launch, the project’s webpage has had ~6,500 views, our most viewed page. The lesson plans have been downloaded ~1,800 times. Educators are using the project in their curriculums and will continue to do so for years to come, inspiring kids to work together to make positive change.
