About This Project
Summary
A collaboration of Public Pixels Media and the Tri-Counties Regional Center from the State of California's Department of Developmental Services to reach out to the Mixtec community, an indigenous Mesoamerican group from northern Mexico with a large California population of immigrant agricultural workers, to inform them of the various services offered by the Regional Center system to support families and individuals dealing with disabilities, regardless of immigration status.
Goals & Objectives
The goal is to help the Mixtec people, an indigenous Mesoamerican group from northern Mexico who have their own spoken language and no written language, learn how to access disability support services from the California Regional Center system without fear of deportation or immigration reporting.
Results & Impact
The Mixtec told us until now they have felt invisible, lacking awareness and access to disability services offered by the state of California. These videos posted on YouTube exist to be shared across their community in their own language and culture, so they may feel seen, heard, and supported.
