About This Project
Summary
Produced for the Freedom Rides Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, the Freedom Riders VR Experience is a 360-degree video journey into the heart of the Civil Rights movement that blends together archival imagery, motion graphics, and powerful audio to create an immersive story that honors those who participated in this movement. Relative Scale produced the film, provided ten VR headsets and travel cases, and trained museum staff so they can take the VR experience to schools and other venues.
Goals & Objectives
1. Connect broader audiences--outside the museum--to the story of the Freedom Riders. 2. Provide an educational experience that fosters empathy and historical awareness. 3. Reinforce Montgomery’s pivotal role in the Civil Rights movement. 4. Drive an increase in visitors to the Freedom Rides Museum.
Results & Impact
While the project was only recently completed, early anecdotal response has been incredibly positive. Freedom Rides Museum staff is scheduling multiple events in and around Montgomery where they will offer the VR experience to a wide variety of audiences.
