About This Project

Summary

We created a comprehensive handbook for parents and other caregivers of children with asthma. Handbooks were made available to health care providers, including school nurses, to share with families affected by asthma. The handbook was designed to provide a full range of needed information in a single resource document - from a child's diagnosis, tips for reducing asthma triggers, how to identify an 'asthma-friendly daycare, tips from other asthma caregivers, preparing for college, and more.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of this project was to increase caregiver's knowledge of how to manage the myriad issues faced when caring for a child with asthma. Our objective was to provide this resource to as many parents as possible, with an initial focus on those in Illinois

Results & Impact

Since 2024, more than 900 orders were received and 13,000 copies of the Handbook were distributed by healthcare providers to families dealing with asthma. In 2025, a Spanish-language version of the Handbook was created and more 2645 copies were distributed.
