Sam's Warriors

About This Project

Summary

Sam's Warriors began as a passion project when my son Sam was diagnosed with leukemia and we were in the hospital for almost 9 months during the first year of the COVID pandemic. Sam is our only child, and I was able to be with him full time, but many children were alone in the hospital. Sam wanted to raise awareness, so he started the pie face challenge, raising awareness and funds for our local hospital to provide funds for childcare and unpaid leave during long hospital stays.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of Sam's Warriors is to bring awareness to the needs of families: financially, emotionally, and physically, when a child is seriously ill. Allowing children and parents to get excited about raising awareness is a cornerstone. The new goal is to create on-site childcare for the hospital.

Results & Impact

The project has been hugely successful and has served over 100 families. To date, the project has raised over $107,000, and half of that is now endowed. We are now embarking on changing the scope of the project to build a family center that will provide on-site childcare and counseling to siblings
