About This Project
Summary
Young people are the key to lasting environmental change. To engage them in conservation, Seacology has created Play for the Mangroves, offering under-resourced coastal youth free sports equipment, branded uniforms, and play opportunities. In return, they agree to take part in environmental education and local hands-on efforts like mangrove planting and beach cleanups. The program began in the Dominican Republic and has since expanded to the Philippines and Jamaica, with more countries to come.
Goals & Objectives
-Educate youth on the importance of mangroves and local conservation efforts -Activate youth to be environmental stewards and advocates -Youth then educate their friends and family -Youth play their favorite sports with high quality equipment, gaining leadership skills, exercising, and having fun
Results & Impact
In the Dominican Republic alone, over 5000 youth in 35 communities have been engaged.
