About This Project
Summary
Evolution of the Black Quarterback is a powerful documentary journey into not only the history of race in the most prominent position in sports, but also a deeper exploration of the cultural forces at play. Michael Vick serves as the guide for a trip across the country and generations, moving back and forth through time to help paint a sweeping picture of prejudice and opportunity that is both sweeping and intimate.
Goals & Objectives
The series provides news-making conversations with prominent football figures including Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Colin Kaepernick, and showcases powerful moments for men like Tony Dungy to express how far we’ve come.
Results & Impact
The series pushes creative boundaries as we come to better understand American history, as well as Vick’s own flawed and compelling history. Cultural and historical figures provide insight into the sociopolitical dynamics at play and the hurdles both surmounted and still in front of us.
