Summary
The Solidarity Economy Workshop (SEW) at Georgetown University, founded by Dr. Dawn Carpenter, empowers purpose-driven creatives to reimagine the economy with dignity, equity, and inclusion. Inspired by Pope Francis’ Economy of Francesco, SEW mentors emerging storytellers to explore workplace democracy, expand ownership, promote responsible investment, and amplify marginalized voices. SEW is a movement-building platform, igniting change through stories that inspire action and economic justice.
Goals & Objectives
*Interwoven* tells the story of Morganton, North Carolina, as it transforms from textile industry decline to a model of resilience. By embracing sustainability and worker ownership, the film aims to inspire other struggling communities to reimagine their futures through innovation and solidarity.
Results & Impact
SEW's debut film, modeled after its award-winning podcast What Does It Profit, has earned 12 global awards, including Best Documentary Short, Best Society Film, and Best Socially Responsible Film. Now it’s set for a roadshow with panels and a potential docu-series adaptation.
