About This Project
Summary
AAPF hosted a panel, powerful performances, and community-building through interactive activities at Sundance 2025. The goal was to offer contemporary storytellers, artists, and filmmakers the tools to resist censorship and defend democracy in the wake of recent pressures to censor speech, and obscure history in public settings. Acclaimed actors read excerpts from iconic American actors and authors, and a panel of creators and political thinkers discussed their significance today.
Goals & Objectives
Cinematic storytelling establishes how most Americans think about the nation, yet the most renowned of early US films were projected an exclusionary vision of America. Our goal is to inspire today's storytellers to acknowledge that past and to use their work to write a more inclusive "story of us".
Results & Impact
We had hundreds over 100 in-person guests, 2,360 views on Youtube to date, and through our interactive leave-behind, we've continued to engage a wide audience of creatives, arts-lovers and changemakers around the importance of telling the whole truth of American history.
