About This Project
Summary
How does a string quartet help build community from Chinese immigrant poetry carved into detention-center walls on Angel Island? Strip away layers of paint - and shame - and let their words sing out after 100 years of silence. The Del Sol Quartet teamed up with The Creative Impostor Studios to produce Sounds Current, a narrative podcast series following Del Sol’s journey to commission, premiere, and follow the historical and cultural ripples of Huang Ruo’s ANGEL ISLAND Oratorio.
Goals & Objectives
The opening season of Sounds Current, "Angel Island", was designed to tell the deeper story behind one of Del Sol's impact-driven projects. Our vision was to give voice to the many collaborators and uplift the historical and cultural narrative of those who immigrated through Angel Island.
Results & Impact
Sounds Current has reached new audiences who have never known the history of Angel Island. They have been introduced to the music and mission of Del Sol. The collaboration has connected communities through shared experiences. The podcast was an official selection at the 2024 Tribeca Audio Festival.
