Summary
The News Literacy Project is a nonpartisan education nonprofit that works with teachers, school districts, states and community partners like libraries and after-school clubs to ensure students in all 50 states receive news literacy instruction before they graduate from high school. In 2008, we helped establish the field of news literacy education, and nearly 20 years later, we’re still leading the way.
Goals & Objectives
Three key paths to lasting change by 2028: Build public support through research and outreach; partner with educators to create scalable teaching models; and drive state policies requiring news literacy before high school graduation.
Results & Impact
In 2024–25, over 15,700 educators used our resources to teach 570,000+ students in 4,800+ districts nationwide. By 2028, we aim to reach 3.5M students, with 2.5M guaranteed news literacy instruction in one-third of U.S. districts using our resources.
