Summary
Ruth, the world's first trauma-informed AI for crisis support, created by survivor-leader Megs Shah. Ruth combines breakthrough innovations in AI ethics, data privacy, and trauma-informed design to serve people experiencing crisis. It offers a digital pathway that leaves no trace for those under surveillance, utilizes a privacy-first data architecture generating insights without storing conversations, and represents a new leadership model combining lived experience with technical expertise.
Goals & Objectives
Create survivor-safe AI w/ ethical safeguards (Best Use of AI), develop a data approach generating insights without compromising privacy (Best Use of Data), & establish a new model of technology leadership informed by lived experience (Nonprofit Leader) - all to reach & support at-risk populations.
Results & Impact
Ruth has exchanged 324,000+ messages across 113+ countries with 94% user satisfaction. It provides data insights without storing conversations, protecting vulnerable users while informing action. It represents a new paradigm where technological excellence and ethical integrity are equally valued.
