About This Project
Summary
Spirit of a Nation takes players back to the 1500s and 1600s to explore American Indigenous people’s early encounters with Europeans, and how archaeologists and historians research and interpret this past. As an intern at Mission San Luis in Florida, you explore artifacts and use “historical imagination” to step into the roles of young Apalachee people in the past. Your goal: to understand how they responded to the arrival of the Spanish and collect evidence to create an exhibit for the museum.

Studies show that?Mission US?engages students deeply in history learning and leads to meaningful gains in historical knowledge. In playtesting, students rated Spirit of a Nation highly (4.1 out of 5) and researchers they were absorbing key ideas about the impact of Spanish presence on Apalachee life
