About This Project

Summary

The Plate Show is a comedy podcast for kids 6-9 and their families about cultures around the world and the foods that are important to them. A talking spoon, Spoonie, and her BFF, Tongs, model curiosity and respect as they host the show from the kitchen counter. In each episode, listeners meet awesome kids and celebrity guest chefs who talk about their own cultural traditions and the foods they love. Plus, each episode has an interactive game, a recipe to try at home, and a bunch of silly jokes.

Goals & Objectives

Inspired by real families, The Plate Show curriculum focuses on cultural competency skills like understanding, appreciating, and interacting with people from different cultural backgrounds. The show celebrates differences by helping listeners get excited to try out new things and meet new people.

Results & Impact

A 2025 study from EDC found the show supported family engagement and learning about how food intersects with specific cultures. Listeners say, “[The podcast] even convinced my son to try some new dishes.” and “I’m also Jewish and I loved hearing that other people do the same traditions as me!”
