About This Project
Summary
Music on a Mission is how we describe ourselves. United by Music America is a program and a blended band of neuro-diverse and neuro-typical very musically talented people who come together to rehearse, support the community through workshops and classes and perform year 'round and world wide. It's a family affair: Amanda Gresham, UBMA producing director and co-founder along with mother, Barbara Hammerman, assembles this cohesive team which is challenging assumptions through music.
Goals & Objectives
Creating more inclusive communities with a sense of belonging, both on and offstage for those within the program and band and for everyone who attends a performance or other event. All activities seek collaboration and participation with the intent of serving more people.
Results & Impact
A model program: One of the most significant results of United by Music America is a recent collaborative initiative launched with the Peninsula Parks & Recreation District. UBMA program artists are themselves going to be co-leasing with professional mentors in Special Rec activities twice weekly.
