About This Project

Summary

When Maryland’s heating aid ran out, the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) moved fast. We set up five pop-up events with The Salvation Army and local groups, reaching more than 35,000 people. Within four weeks, we provided $123,000 to 400 families to stop shutoffs. The plan was simple: be visible, act quickly, and treat every family with dignity.

Goals & Objectives

Any family can face hard times with no warning. Our goal was to keep families from losing heat, hot water, and cooking gas when Maryland state aid ended. It wasn't only about reaching those at risk through direct outreach and on-site support: it was about every household feeling seen and respected.

Results & Impact

We distributed $123,000 in aid to 400 families at five Maryland pop-up events. Our outreach connected with 35,000 people, providing on-site and bilingual assistance for broad access. Families felt safe, warm, and connected. WAFF’s 42 years of service made the response quick, fair, and trusted.
