Summary
Studies show video games can support veterans recovering from PTSD and other mental health challenges. Through promoting social connections and providing a therapeutic distraction, games help veterans manage stress and develop coping strategies. Tapping into the potential of games, August Interactive and WePlay Studios launched Gamers and Guardians, an esports charity competition and a gaming show for military veterans, fostering community and resilience worldwide.
Goals & Objectives
The goal of Gamers and Guardians was to create an inclusive environment that acknowledges the challenges military veterans face upon returning from a war zone. The show aimed to build awareness, reduce stigma around mental health, and foster a sense of belonging through gaming.
Results & Impact
The pilot event attracted 185,675 unique viewers. All donations and subscriptions collected during the stream were transferred to the event prize pool and the veteran charity funds. Now, the show has become a recurring initiative that brings together veterans, their families, and friends.
