About This Project
Summary
The Inclusive Communities Project at WIHD leverages the power of documentary film to promote greater acceptance and inclusion of children and adults with disabilities in schools and communities worldwide. The Ride Ahead synopsis: Samuel Habib is a typical 21-year-old, itching to move out, start a career, and find love. But no one tells you how to be an adult, let alone an adult with a disability. Can a community of disability activists help him follow his dreams?
Goals & Objectives
Our film and impact campaign support disabled youth to create roadmaps towards full, included adult lives through increased awareness of: Possibilities for future careers, postsecondary education, relationships, and community-based lives; Life planning strategies; the critical role of mentorship.
Results & Impact
Thousands surveyed after watching the film: 97% of young disabled adults are more aware of opportunities for inclusive education, college, assistive technology, jobs, and independent living. 99% of educators are more committed to including disabled youth in K-12 school, college, and employment.
