About This Project

Summary

Since the full-scale invasion in February 2022, WCK has supported families in Ukraine with hot meals, food kits, vegetable kits, potable water, community kitchens, seeds and more. Our latest effort focuses on long-term self-sufficiency: providing hens, feed, and supplies so families, and seniors living alone near the front lines, can collect fresh eggs at home—offering both nourishment and a small return to normalcy in daily life.

Goals & Objectives

Our goal was to help families and seniors in Ukraine establish a sustainable food source amid the ongoing challenges of war. 300 households received 10 juvenile hens and enough feed to support the birds to maturity—after which the hens can survive on kitchen scraps and insects.

Results & Impact

Our “Chicken Project” exceeded our own expectations—hens began laying eggs almost immediately. Families embraced them as both a food source and as pets. For our Ukrainian team, who live through the war alongside those they serve, the project was also a meaningful boost in morale.
