About This Project

Summary

With 48 million family caregivers and more than 11,000 Americans turning 65 every day, caregiving in the U.S. is about to hit a tipping point. Research shows older adults want to age in place, but for those with health challenges, the desire to remain independent is at odds with their abilities. Family and friends often take on tasks once relegated to professionals. This series looks at challenges of caregiving for an older adult, spouse or friend with a specific disabling illness or conditions.

Goals & Objectives

We look at real-life situations facing family caregivers and provide actionable tips to help their loved ones thrive. The stories wove in information on each condition, offered guidance on creating a safe home space, gave dietary tips and ways to improve mind and spirit.

Results & Impact

The stories were shared on the Caregiving channel on aarp.org and with the 19K members of AARP’s Family Caregivers Discussion Group on Facebook. Specific articles ran in our Daily newsletter with 1 million subscribers. The social reach for the five articles was 150K on Facebook.
