About This Project
Summary
AARP® Purpose Prize® award winner Don Schoendorfer was searching for how to use his 25+ years’ experience as an engineer to invent a sturdy wheelchair that could withstand the often-demanding environmental conditions of underdeveloped countries. This led to founding of the Free Wheelchair Mission, a humanitarian, faith-based nonprofit that has delivered more than 1.4 million wheelchairs to people in need around the world. Our strategy was to use video to bring awareness to the organization.
Goals & Objectives
The AARP® Purpose Prize® award supports AARP's mission by honoring extraordinary people ages 50 and older who tap into the power of life experience to build a better future for us all. The video’s goal was to highlight one of those winners and inspire others to harness their wisdom and do the same.
Results & Impact
As the lights came up in the theater at the awards ceremony, it was clear that the audience was inspired and moved. People cheered and clapped as founder, Don Schoendorfer, took the stage to accept his award, a prize of $50,000 to continue funding the Free Wheelchair Mission’s work around the world.
