About This Project
Summary
Problem: In the Philippines, there has been an alarming number of students unable and prohibited from graduating, unless they follow their schools’ uniform regulations despite the Department of Education's existing order allowing them to freely express themselves as they are. Solution: The Quezon City Government mounted the historic “Graduation Rights,” a symbolic graduation ceremony for LGBTQIA+ students. Here, they could march with pride and express themselves as they truly are.
Goals & Objectives
1. To mount Graduation Rights, a first-of-its kind event in the Philippines 2. To have an intimate event with an inaugural batch of 50 Rainbow Graduates 3. To have the Department of Education acknowledge this event as they are partly the reason why this event was needed
Results & Impact
-Inaugural Batch: 394 Rainbow Graduates. Surpassed target by 688% -Massive and organic media coverage: 109 national, local, and international media posts -Event approved by Department of Education. They were present in the event! -Received Seal of Approval from Commission on Human Rights
