Summary

Nyra Jordan, social justice advocate and impact investor, implemented fair-chance hiring at American Family Insurance. Now, job applications at the Fortune 300 company are inclusive for those with criminal records — helping to integrate over 70 million justice-impacted people into the workforce. Here’s her Ted Talk on the importance of fair-chance hiring. Nyra also co-founded and leads the AmFam Institute, investing venture capital and in partnerships that scale the fair chance economy.

Goals & Objectives

Recognizing that talent is everywhere but opportunity is not, Nyra led AmFam to: 1. Create and adopt fair-chance hiring practices, a complex endeavor for the Fortune 300 company due to the nature of the insurance industry. 2. Actively recruit justice-involved individuals to work for AmFam.

Results & Impact

Beyond American Family Insurance’s hiring practices, Nyra leads community investments that support fair-chance hiring, including All-In Grocers, which hires formerly incarcerated workers, bringing jobs and fresh foods to an underinvested neighborhood in Waterloo, Iowa.
