About This Project
Summary
The Viruses, Vaccines & COVID-19 online hub was created as part of a NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene public health education initiative to reach educators, families, and young people in New York City to promote better understanding of viruses, pandemics, vaccines, and public health. Working with researchers and public health experts, we produced a slate of digital resources in three languages (English, Spanish, and Mandarin) highlighting the basics of virology to battle misinformation.
Goals & Objectives
We aimed to help the public learn about the science of COVID-19 through original videos and complementary articles around key topics such as What is a virus? and How does a pandemic end? In the first year, we aimed to reach 15K page views for the site and 10K views per English-language video.
Results & Impact
Some 40,000 pageviews have already been recorded for this online initiative—more than double our objective. The video explainers now have more than 40,000 views—surpassing our initial goal—and have been incorporated into the Museum’s online courses and educator resources to serve teachers.
