About This Project
Summary
For many students, post-secondary education courses are a gateway to better career opportunities. However, intro classes like chemistry & statistics are complex & fast-paced, often becoming a barrier. In partnership with Lumen, Blink created an innovative product vision driven by an equity-centered research process with students and faculty co-designing new courseware features. The innovation behind the features enables equitable opportunities for students who are often racially marginalized.
Goals & Objectives
What are ways in which we: Eliminate race & income as predictors of student success? Help instructors to support their students who need it most? Create an environment where students feel welcomed & supported? Anticipate where a student might struggle to surface help content right when they need it?
Results & Impact
A strategic approach to research was to keep the same students and faculty engaged throughout the research process to quickly honor their feedback, validate concepts, and mature design iterations. Lumen has released its first set of features and will continue with incremental releases.
