About This Project

Summary

Closegap is a nonprofit startup that provides K-12 schools with free mental health check-ins so they can effectively respond to student needs. The average delay between the onset of mental health needs and intervention is a staggering 11 years. When students are struggling, we don't have mechanisms to catch it. Our check-ins, designed and developed alongside students, help young people build key social-emotional skills while equipping schools with data for real-time monitoring and intervention.

Goals & Objectives

Closegap provides a free platform to schools nationwide, facilitating early detection and intervention. By equipping schools with real-time data, Closegap bridges the gap between student needs and support. We aim to support high-need schools that stand to benefit most from what we’ve built.

Results & Impact

70% of students attend Title 1 school; 46% identify as BIPOC. 7.4 million check-ins. 80% of staff identified struggling students they were previously unaware of and saved lives. 40% of students who initially couldn't name one adult could name at least one adult after one month of using Closegap.
