About This Project

Summary

Coffee drives tropical deforestation, high emissions, and traps millions in poverty. Coffee Watch's strategy connects deforestation, forced labor, and corporate accountability within an investigative and legal framework. Focus on ethical sourcing throughout the supply chain through field research/investigations, strategic litigation, regulatory complaints, and a strategic media strategy to hold the coffee industry accountable for environmental and human rights violations simultaneously.

Goals & Objectives

Make the global coffee industry ethical and sustainable: living incomes for farmers, an end to forced and child labor, and protection for women. Regenerative coffee that protects biodiversity and reverses deforestation promotes sustainability across the sector globally and within countries.

Results & Impact

Results in bringing scrutiny to the coffee industry. Germany is investigating top brands for supply chain abuses. Mexico is enacting reforms. US border petition results. Corporate changes at Nestlé and certifications. Media attention exploded NYT Quote of Day. 400+ articles reached 31 countries.
