About This Project

Summary

Compassion Prison Project (CPP) is an international nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. Best known for the internationally acclaimed short film, Step Inside the Circle, CPP’s mission is to create trauma-informed prisons and communities. Our method features an educational program called Trauma Talks, which is specially designed for prison residents. Our in-person workshop, Trauma to Transformation, serves as an introduction and provides a fast track to learning about childhood trauma

Goals & Objectives

CPP’s north star is to end child abuse. Most of the people living in prison do not know they are traumatized, or were traumatized as children growing up. CPP’s main objective is to transform all prisons in the United States and internationally into trauma-informed centers of healing and education.

Results & Impact

CPP has partnered with the University of Notre Dame's Lab for Economic Opportunities (LEO) for a 4-year study to gather data proving the effectiveness of our 16-week curriculum, Trauma Talks. It is being implemented in prisons across the United States, Northern Ireland, Colombia and New Zealand.
