About This Project
Summary
The Goldman Environmental Prize recognizes grassroots environmental heroes from the world’s six inhabited continental regions: Africa, Asia, Europe Islands & Island Nations, North America, and South & Central America. The Prize recognizes individuals for sustained & significant efforts to protect & enhance the natural environment, often at great personal risk. “Grassroots” leaders are those involved in local efforts, where positive change is created through community or citizen participation.
Goals & Objectives
Through recognizing these individual leaders the Prize seeks to inspire ordinary people to take extraordinary actions to protect the natural world. The Prize creates a call to action for each winner’s professional organization & engages local & national elected officials in the Climate conversation.
Results & Impact
This year we hosted over 3,500 guests in San Francisco & 1,000 guests in Washington, D.C., where many prominent politicians & NGOs were present. Additionally, 4,300 virtual guests were inspired by YouTube viewership. Meaningful connections were made for each Prize winner.
