About This Project

Summary

While visiting Afghanistan, and talking about local education, I realized there was an opportunity to help support local education in a small village. With a competitive teachers salary being quite reasonable by western standards, I gave some money to hire teachers and start a school program. I had no prior knowledge of how to handle any charity work. I have learned along the way and it has turned into a very positive thing.

Goals & Objectives

We aimed to hire 5 teachers, to teach a secular curriculum. We would tell the local parents that they should send their kids and that it would be free. For a period of time local women were coming as well to learn to read(in Taliban controlled Afghanistan).

Results & Impact

The initiative spread, and what small number of tourists visited the country, would hear about the school and see the impact, and would donate. This has lead to a handful of schools being opened around the country. Currently over 800 kids are enrolled throughout the country.
