About This Project

Summary

How can older Americans thrive in a society that values youth? In a country that hasn’t invested in long-term support for our aging neighbors and loved ones? This special section, comprising 9 stories across 26 pages, explores the challenges of aging in America, including in stories focusing on the LGBTQ+ community and racial disparities in dementia. The collection highlights the work of researchers across disciplines to address these and other issues to support thriving for all, at every age.

Goals & Objectives

A guiding principle for this section came from one of our researchers: “Aging is not something to be feared.” We aimed to support that idea in diverse stories about research on preventing dementia, fostering resilience, supporting older adults and their caregivers, addressing loneliness, and more.

Results & Impact

We shared the special section with 30K+ print readers, 43K email readers, 950K+ social media followers, and 90K+ newsletter readers to raise awareness of the challenges facing an aging American society and to show how we can address them.
