About This Project

Summary

Mama Dragons provides an on-line community space that brings together the mamas* (expansive and inclusive definition) of LGBTQ+ children as they learn to accept, affirm and advocate for their children - predominantly from conservative faiths and geographies. We provide peer led support, suicide prevention training, group therapy, support programs and advocacy training in how to have conversations that can change hearts and minds in those hard spaces and in all the places where decisions are made

Goals & Objectives

Increase familial acceptance of LGBTQ+ people in traditionally conservative spaces Prevent youth homelessness/ suicide by increasing understanding Offer support/learning for parents for the emotional, physical and health considerations of their LGBTQ+ children Create opportunities for celebratition

Results & Impact

Mama Dragons has grown to over 11,000 active members in our online communities. We are now represented in all 50 states, DC, Puerto Rica, Guam, Canada, the UK and the Pacific Islands. We have 39 private Facebook groups/affinity groups who regularly meet. We attend Pride celebrations in many locati
