Maryland Food BankAbout This Project
Summary
Carmen Del Guercio has guided the vision and operations of Maryland’s core hunger-relief organization since 2016. His journey from a career in the financial sector to helming the food bank reflects a deep commitment to community service and systemic change. Dedicated to addressing root causes of food insecurity, he advocates for solutions that extend beyond food distribution and develops collaborative partnerships to increase reach and impact with the ultimate goal of making food banks obsolete.
Goals & Objectives
He has implemented initiatives to address the root causes of hunger for food-insecure Marylanders through technical and life skill-building culinary training, workforce development partnerships, a grant program promoting systems-level change, neighbor-led advocacy work, and support services access.
Results & Impact
Under his leadership, the food bank provides 50M pounds of food and graduates 100 students annually through its workforce development efforts. One example is its Farm2Food Bank program which provides access to healthy, locally grown produce often out of reach for food-insecure Marylanders.
