About This Project

Summary

The 11-person team from McCarthy Building Companies, Castle Contracting and McCarthy Holdings, Inc. partnered with Bridges to Prosperity – a global non-profit agency connecting isolated communities through pedestrian trail bridges. The team worked alongside local workers to build safe access to doctors, schools, and economic opportunities, connecting isolated communities in the process.

Goals & Objectives

Collaborating with Bridges to Prosperity to build a 117m suspension footbridge to improve lives in rural communities, by connecting once isolated areas near the Nyarutovu River – the Nkomane, Kanaba and Rwamamber communities.

Results & Impact

The 117m suspension G.S. Mugunga bridge now serves two communities, with more than 4,000 beneficiaries. We are seeing increases in the following: School attendance is up 200%, Labor Market Income is up 36%, Farms profits is up 75%, Women entering labor force is up 60%, and Health Visits are up 32%
