About This Project

Summary

In July 1969, much of the world celebrated the “giant leap for mankind” of the successful moon landing. In 2021, nothing is quite so straightforward. By using deepfake technologies to bring to life the actual contingency speech written for President Nixon in case the mission ended in tragedy, In Event of Moon Disaster invites you into an alternative history and asks us all to consider how new technologies can bend, redirect and obfuscate the truth around us.

Goals & Objectives

This project has two primary goals: first, viscerally show how powerful modern AI-enhanced synthetic media can be at creating and spreading disinformation (even about incredibly well-known facts); and second, give a taste of the immense creative possibilities contained in these same technologies.
