About This Project
Summary
Mozilla's *Privacy Not Included guide reviewed 25 car brands, uncovering severe privacy concerns. All car makers excessively collected, shared, or sold personal data, often without user consent or control. The research, which took over 600 hours, highlighted the lack of basic security standards and transparency in car privacy practices. Mozilla aims to raise awareness and push for better privacy standards in the automotive industry through this analysis?.
Goals & Objectives
Privacy Not Included researchers exposed privacy and security concerns in modern cars. Objectives included highlighting excessive data collection, lack of user control, and insufficient security measures. The goal was to raise consumer awareness and push for better privacy practices from automakers.
Results & Impact
We had 1,000+ press stories across 33 countries, raising awareness about privacy issues in cars and sparking further research by journalists and policymakers. Several US Senators and EU MEPs cited our research to demand better privacy practices, and the FTC officially put car companies on notice.
