About This Project
Summary
Join Composer Branford Marsalis on an original audio walking tour developed in a collaboration between the Trust for the National Mall and Netflix's RUSTIN. March On: Rustin provides listeners with an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the 1963 March On Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which cemented the National Mall's role as America’s Civic Stage. And to learn about Bayard Rustin and his role as an architect of the March, its impact and its legacy.
Goals & Objectives
As a somewhat forgotten figure in the history of the March on Washington, we wanted to use the release of the film RUSTIN as way to draw in visitors to the National Mall to consider what it took to organize the event in such a short time. And Rustin's involvement in making that happen.
Results & Impact
Tens of thousands of listens to date, and counting. Using the film as a launching point to grow awareness about the history of Bayard Rustin, his impact, and The March On Washington. Visitors of The National Mall were able to scan printed QR codes that linked to the audio tour.
