About This Project

Summary

Every Child and Family is Known (ECFIK) is a groundbreaking Bronx pilot that pairs families in shelter with school staff dedicated to helping their children come to school with everything they need to learn. The Portal has built the infrastructure to support staff and families with robust program management, check-in logging, and AI-powered family need identification tools that help increase access to vital services for this vulnerable population.

Goals & Objectives

In partnership with the ECFIK team, we set out to create a platform that can translate daily check-ins with children and families by trusted school staff into real-time data views for city leaders, in order to help proactively deploy city and local resources where and when families need them most.

Results & Impact

Since Fall 2024, our AI system has scanned over 20,000 notes logged by school staff, resulting in 14,000+ needs signaled across 15+ categories. By making this inventory of needs visible, stakeholders from multiple city agencies were able to proactively deploy key resources to support families.
