About This Project

Summary

Nearly 44 million people experience food insecurity in the U.S., and Leap Year includes an extra day for people facing hunger to secure food for themselves and their families. To tackle the heightened challenge this February 29, 2024, Perdue Farms teamed up with Feeding America to deliver 3.3M lbs of its chicken across the U.S. The donation aimed to fill an urgent need at food banks, as Feeding America reported a 500M pound protein gap within its network.

Goals & Objectives

Perdue’s goal was to provide 3.3M lbs of protein to communities facing food insecurity, especially those where its associates live and work. Second to ensuring the donation reached those in need, Perdue wanted to drive awareness of the food insecurity challenge identified by Feeding America.

Results & Impact

Perdue donated roughly 2.75M servings of its chicken, over 70 tractor trailers, to food banks and food pantries benefiting many Perdue communities and worked with Feeding America to distribute donations to even more food banks in the states it identified as most in need of high-quality protein.
