About This Project

Summary

amica is a digital platform designed by Portable in collaboration with National Legal Aid to facilitate the separation process for previously married or de facto couples. This innovative tool utilises artificial intelligence to suggest fair asset divisions based on data collected from legal practitioners and synthetic datasets, thereby reducing legal costs and the burden on family courts.

Goals & Objectives

amica's objective is to provide an amicable, online solution where couples can negotiate the separation of assets and create parenting plans without engaging lawyers or attending court. Portable aimed to develop a mobile-first tool that could guide users through the process step-by-step.

Results & Impact

Since its launch amica has had a significant impact, receiving over 1,000 sign-ups within the initial months. It was awarded the Best Government and Public Sector Solution at the National iAwards 2020, underscoring its influence and the potential for transforming the legal landscape.
