About This Project
Summary
100+ million Americans are in medical debt, which is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in our country. That’s one in every three people buried in bills they can’t afford. One of the key reasons is that hospitals and insurers hide their prices to avoid price competition and accountability for overcharges. Instead, they merely provide "estimates," which is a way to further obfuscate. In this PSA, we create a dystopian world without prices in any industry, exclaiming "Estimates are B.S."
Goals & Objectives
Greedy profiteers have been lobbying to our elected officials to allow for estimates instead of real prices. We created this messaging to combat that effort, showcasing just how ridiculous the idea of allowing estimates would be and how this would be totally unacceptable in any other industry.
Results & Impact
Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Mike Braun created a Senate bill, which healthcare lobbyists have fought to change to allow for estimates instead of real prices. This PSA has been one of the main assets that rejects this idea and has helped to keep the Senate bill demanding real prices intact.
