About This Project
Summary
Using the hashtag #GirlsResist, we wanted to inspire teenage girls and young women to reflect on the role that resistance played in their own lives growing up, and to share their stories of resistance on TikTok and Instagram. Our goal was to reframe resistance from something that only “exceptional” girls like Greta Thunberg or Malala Yousafzai engage in, to an everyday act that all girls and women participate in, in ways both big and small.
Goals & Objectives
To seed at least 50 stories from feminist social media creators globally, with a focus on young women aged 16-25. To shift the way that girls and young women understand resistance, from an exceptional act to an everyday one. To use the campaign as a hook for podcasts and traditional media.
Results & Impact
57 stories posted from creators across the US, UK, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa, sharing stories about breaking stereotypes, standing up to abuse, and expressing identity. 286,000 views and 547+ comments. Podcast coverage in the United States, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe.
