About This Project
Summary
At MAJ, Radio-Canada's news platform for kids ages 9 to 13, we asked 8 people living with disabilities to each explain a word related to their lived experience : disability, neurodiversity, inspiration porn, accessibility, resilience, sign language, forced intimacy and ableism. By sharing our episodes via social media, our series finds kids where they’re at in order to help them better understand the reality of people with disabilities by means of sensitive and enlightening stories.
Goals & Objectives
According to a 2022 StatCan census, 27% of Canadians over the age of 15 have at least one form of disability that limits their daily activities. And yet, we hear so little about the realities they face. This series’ goal is to raise awareness among our young audience to make them disability allies.
Results & Impact
Our series got 285K views. Several national TV/radio programs have invited our cast and crew to speak about our innovative production approach. We've received a flood of testimonials from viewers living with disabilities and teachers, emphasizing the relevance of our project in our media landscape.
