About This Project

Summary

By harnessing stories of family's elder generations, Root & Seed makes storytelling an experience that builds relationships and gives meaning to the whole family. Intuitive technology and physical products help with collecting and preservation. The Root & Seed Conversation Cards and mobile-based web app serve prompts and dig deeper questions to naturally inspire storytelling and the online tool allows for voice recording, photo uploads and addition of text in a secure private online library.

Goals & Objectives

Build an experience that is fun, easy and inclusive. The physical cards aid older generations, the digital empowers younger generations. By working with linguists we are inviting, eliminating barriers to storytelling exacerbated by trauma, memory retrieval difficulties and language differences.

Results & Impact

Recognition by AGE-WELL for cognitive & social wellness of aging adults, recommended by Better Homes & Gardens for fun & convenience, and honoured by Webbys for innovation. Generational stories are preserved and celebrated every day in homes, schools, long-term care, and treatment centers globally.
