We're Closed for Paid Leave: A First-of-its-Kind Campaign to Call for Congress to Pass Paid Leave
ROSIEAbout This Project
Summary
The US is 1 of only 7 countries that doesn’t guarantee any form of paid leave to workers. In honor of Women's History Month, we partnered with Paid Leave for All and recruited 70 businesses to shut down for one employee paid day off to send a message to Congress: It’s time to pass paid leave. On 3/18, businesses around the country closed their doors and took to social media to pledge 'We're Closed For Paid Leave' and encouraged Americans to sign a petition to pass paid leave once and for all.
Goals & Objectives
We're Closed for Paid Leave's goal was to raise awareness for Paid Leave for All, garner a minimum of 50K signatures on a petition for Congress to pass paid leave, and grab the attention of lawmakers in Congress who have the power to pass this life-changing legislation.
Results & Impact
We're Closed for Paid Leave reached 3.6M Americans on social media, received support from influential people like Hillary Clinton, and garnered significant press coverage from Fast Company, GMA, NPR, and more. We reached our goal of 50K petition signatures and hand-delivered the petition Congress.
